Once upon a time, there lived a small, quarrelsome people on the Donnersberg mountain...

The Celts lived on the Donnersberg mountain about 2,000 years ago. Today, visitors can learn about the lives of the tribes in the reconstructed Celtic village.
FACTS
Price: Family ticket €19, children aged 4 and over: €5, adults €7
Weather: dry weather from April to October
Age: From about 4 years old
Dogs: allowed on a leash
Location: Steinbach am Donnersberg
The Celtic village on the Donnersberg mountain is not large, but still impressive. A gate in the palisade wall lets us in.
Dogs on leashes are also welcome.
There are several faithfully reconstructed houses, a campsite with a fire pit, and a lookout tower.
Join the leadership!
The entrance fee also included a guided tour, lasting about an hour, followed by mead or apple juice in the tavern. Even though we arrived late, we were able to join the tour without any problems. It was child-friendly and engaging. What does it feel like to sleep in a bed made of animal hides? And what professions did the Celts have? The children even got to try out the carving bench. We also now know the secret of how Asterix and Obelix came to be.
Children's workshops - included in the admission price
After the guided tour, we explored the village on our own and visited the blacksmith's shop and the craft house. A free workshop was taking place there, focusing on leather crafts. The kids were given leather and templates and, with the help of the adults, made their own leather pouches. Perfect for little treasures!
Also a great destination for children's birthday parties
Depending on your choice, there are always different workshops available: sometimes pottery, sometimes coin casting, or arrow making. Archery, wet felting, and copper work are also on offer. It's also a great place to celebrate children's birthdays .
Open only from April to October
Please note the opening hours: The Celtic village is only open on Sundays and public holidays from 11 am to 4 pm. The village is closed for the winter from November to March.
Even in summer, the houses are very cool inside, so bring a vest!
Toilets (including accessible toilets) are available at the entrance.
Highlight: Halloween, or Samhain
The grand finale of the season is the Samhain festival, celebrated in the Celtic village with a torchlight procession to the Celtic garden. Samhain is the Celtic origin of Halloween and is celebrated on October 31st.
Parking lot slightly below
To get to the Celtic village, drive to the end of Brühlstraße in Steinbach. You'll find parking on the side of the road. From there, walk about 150 meters uphill and you'll find the village on your right.
Stop at the PWV hut
For a bite to eat, I can highly recommend the PWV hut in Steinbach. Firstly, the food was really delicious, and secondly, the playground behind the hut is fantastic. With swings, a zip line, a seesaw, a sandpit, and spring riders, there was something for everyone. Dogs were also welcome (even indoors).
