Online booking at FunForest
You book your ticket online for your desired day and park in the free parking spaces next to the forest swimming pool in Kandel. Even on your way to the climbing park, you'll see daring climbers above you, traversing the road several meters above the ground – some even using a zip line inside a bathtub. Crazy? Pretty cool.
Children's obstacle course in the FunForest
The kids won't be climbing at that height, of course. The children's course is open to children aged 3 to 6. However, I recommend it only for children aged 5 and up. The children secure themselves with carabiners and must clip and unclip them independently. This requires a fair amount of coordination. Accompanying adults (free of charge, by the way, if they aren't climbing themselves) can walk alongside the course and intervene if necessary, but they cannot go up to the children and help them.
Child-friendly climbing elements
The courses, which run at a height of approximately 1-2.5 meters, are very child-friendly and beautifully designed. There are hedgehog, ladybug, frog, and owl courses, each featuring a variety of elements: climbing walls, crawl tunnels, balancing bridges, zip lines, nets, a frog slide, a slackline, and swings. The variety makes it really exciting.
Here's what you need for a visit to the climbing forest
You have a total of 3 hours on the Kids' Course. The entrance fee of €8.90 (as of August 2022) includes the ticket for the Kids' Course, a climbing harness, a helmet, and a short safety briefing. Toddlers receive a harness that also goes over their shoulders. Anyone wishing to climb themselves needs an additional adult to accompany their children, who must be supervised while climbing. Children must be able to reach a handhold height of 1.20 m. You can test this on the holds at the ticket counter.
Food and drinks at FunForest
For a quick bite, there are self-catering areas or the kiosk offering drinks, ice cream, waffles, and small snacks at fair prices. It's significantly less busy here during the week than on weekends, so you might experience some waiting times on the tracks.
Climbing is possible at FunForest in Kandel even in light rain. However, the park will be closed in bad weather.
Tip for kids with long hair: Don't forget a hair tie!
