SHORT, STEEP PATH WITH 360° PANORAMA

The Gruffalo is coming back

Short and steep - but with a brilliant 360-degree panorama!

The trip to Lindelbrunn Castle falls into the category of "Just a quick getaway" - perfect for getting some fresh air with a short distance (1.5 km total).

FACTS

Price: free, freely accessible

Weather: dry weather

Age: all age groups

Distance: 1.5 kilometers in total

Location: Vorderweidenthal

Parking behind the Cramerhaus

The starting point for the hike is the parking area behind the Cramerhaus in Vorderweidenthal. The Cramerhaus is a worthwhile place to end the hike – with a lovely beer garden in the summer.

From the parking lot, head into the park and uphill. The path to the castle winds its way around to the right of the castle. Follow the sign for "Ruins" and continue along the wide path.

Too steep for a stroller

This route is not recommended for strollers due to the steep incline. A baby carrier or backpack backpack is preferable. It's a fairly steep climb, but only about 700 meters long.

Once you've passed the back of the castle, you'll see a small path branching off to the right. A great viewpoint is hidden here after about 100 meters.

Typical Palatinate: Rock castle

Back on the main path, we enter the ruins. Typical of Palatinate castles, it was built on a sandstone plateau. The castle's living quarters are partly hewn into the rock; you'll find them to the left, down a few steps. The ruins are mostly destroyed, with only a few sections of wall remaining. However, the windows and the 360-degree panorama are impressive.

Lindelbrunn Castle was probably built in the 12th century. Its exposed location at 437 meters above sea level offers far-reaching views, including a clear view of the famous Rötzenfelsen rock formation. This makes the castle a popular spot for watching the sunrise or sunset over the Palatinate Forest. Please note that the castle is not fully secured and children must be supervised.

Stop at the Cramerhaus

Back at the Cramerhaus, a stop for refreshments is well worth it. The large beer garden and excellent cuisine with its classic mountain hut menu attract many hikers, especially in summer.

Easily combined with other excursions

You can easily combine this hike with other destinations in the area: the wildlife and hiking park in Silz has a great playground, or Berwartstein Castle is one of the few inhabited castles that you can visit. The lake next to it is a swimming lake.
