Stroking deer, walking the barefoot path and feeding goats

In the Rheingönheim Wildlife Park, you can get very close to the otherwise shy animals. Some deer even let you pet them.

Weather: dry weather

Age: Toddlers and kindergarten children

Location: Ludwigshafen - Rheingönheim

The wildlife park in Ludwigshafen, while a bit dated, isn't a particularly outstanding destination in my opinion. However, the events and children's programs offered there are truly fantastic and very well done. A visit to the wildlife park is definitely worthwhile then. You can read about what you can experience at the wildlife park here:

What animals live in the LU Wildlife Park?

Right by the goat enclosure, it becomes clear: we should have bought animal feed. You can get it at the checkout for €1 per bag. Please don't feed the animals food you've brought with you. This used to be the rule, but it's now forbidden to prevent the animals from suffering. So, we feed them the feed we bought later through the fence, and the children stay there for quite a while. Eventually, our gaze falls on the enclosure of the donkeys opposite. They are extremely tame and, with drooping lower lips, calmly let us stroke their large ears. On our circular walk, we encounter another animal surprise: a young deer lies directly under the hammock, enjoying the autumn sun. He lets us pet him and keeps dozing off. We observe the wild boars, tarpans, horses, and lynxes from a distance. The sheep, on the other hand, are quite greedy for our food. We repeatedly encounter tame and shy deer.

Feeling the ground barefoot

In the wildlife park in Rheingönheim, there's a beautifully designed barefoot path that's well worth trying. So take off your shoes and aahhh...ahhh...the massage begins.

Besides the barefoot path, there is also a nice, shady picnic area with benches.

Events at the Rheingönheim Wildlife Park

The family festival at the wildlife park in May is a particular highlight of the year. But the wildlife park also offers many other workshops, nature-based educational tours, and experiences.

Stop for refreshments and play at the LU Wildlife Park

In front of the wildlife park, the rustic Wildpark Stube (Wildlife Park Inn) invites visitors to stop in for refreshments. Right next to it is the publicly accessible playground, which is completely fenced in. Besides a slide, tunnels, and a sand and mud area, children will also find a nest swing and a listening tube – an underground telephone. The playground isn't anything special, but it's simply a nice addition to a visit to the wildlife park.

Tip: You can rent handcarts at the wildlife park (rentals are available directly at the ticket office). Arrive early for a good chance of getting one, as they tend to disappear quickly.

Dogs are not allowed inside due to the free-roaming wildlife.
