Sledding hike
Admittedly, not many children can manage a 10-kilometer hike on a wide forest path. But you can simply pull the kids along on a sled. Or you can bring a stroller and they can enjoy a convenient hop-on-hop-off tour.
Start at the Rotsteig parking lot
The trail starts above the "Rotsteig" parking lot – if you're coming from Neustadt via Lindenberg, it's located directly after the Kurpfalzpark parking lot. If you're coming from Wachenheim, it's located before the Kurpfalzpark parking lot.
From there, the path climbs slightly uphill, circling the Kurpfalzpark with brief glimpses of the summer toboggan run. After about a kilometer, you'll reach a junction. The Lambertskreuz is signposted; continue straight ahead, following the path with a very gentle incline. The final section (after approximately 4 kilometers) involves a slightly steeper climb, but it's still manageable with a stroller.
Lambertskreuz - an institution in the Palatinate Forest
On foot, by sled, by bike, or on horseback – there's no other way to get there. And so you'll find a truly forest-loving crowd AND one of the most beautiful cabins in the Palatinate Forest. The Bienenstich (bee sting cake) is legendary, but the really quick and delicious food, the rustic dining rooms, and the large playground also make this a perennial favorite.
Special offers during the week
Currently, they serve steamed dumplings every Friday and schnitzel on Wednesdays. It's a popular spot for bikers. There's also a separate parking area for horses. At Easter, they have a fun egg hunt for kids around the cabin.
During the Christmas season, various stalls invite visitors to the forest Christmas market.
Paths to Lambertskreuz
Another very scenic route to the Lambertskreuz leads you from the "Alte Schanze" parking lot up to the hut. This route is about 12 kilometers long and includes steep ascents. It is not suitable for strollers and is only recommended for families with children who enjoy hiking. However, it is considerably more varied than the wide road.
