Under a bright blue sky, we headed to the quarry near Bad Dürkheim - the Kriemhildenstuhl is reachable in less than 30 minutes, truly impressive, spacious, sunny and therefore also a great tip for a short hike with children.

Romans in the Palatinate

Even the Romans used the quarry; stones from here have been identified in Mainz. How crazy is that? There's a child-friendly information panel in front of the quarry that you can read to the kids.

Bring a picnic

Pack a picnic; the sandstone picnic benches invite you to take a relaxing break with a view. Dogs are allowed here, but climbing in the quarry is not.

Paths to the Kriemhild's Chair

Easy and quick

With a walking distance of only 500 meters and yet an elevation gain of almost 100 meters, this is the fastest route to the Kriemhildenstuhl viewpoint. The starting point is at the "Bau 2000" bus stop on Sonnenwendstraße in Bad Dürkheim. Follow the path marked with a blue stripe up several steps. As soon as you see signs for the Kriemhildenstuhl, leave the blue-marked path. You'll reach the top in about 20 minutes, even with children.

5 km hike with incline

From the Natural History Museum Bad Dürkheim via the Kaiser-Wilhelms-Höhe viewpoint at the solstice to the quarry with beautiful views.

4 km hike with a place to stop for refreshments

From the Weilach car park, follow the signposted path. This is the only path with a place to stop for refreshments.
