What is a wine trail?

The wine trail in Neustadt-Haardt is a 140-meter-long themed trail for families who want to combine nature, exercise, and a bit of knowledge about viticulture. Especially in late summer/autumn, during harvest time, you can taste ripe grapes and experience the different grape varieties.

A walk for all the senses

Along the path, lovingly designed information panels explain the work of the winegrowers, the grape varieties, and the special characteristics of Palatinate viticulture. In this way, children and adults alike can playfully learn how a small grape eventually becomes wine. A particular advantage: the path is not too long and easily manageable even for younger children.

Bring a picnic

The wine trail leads you past an old grape press and is ideal for families looking for a leisurely stroll without any steep climbs. Along the way, there are plenty of benches and rest areas that invite you to take a break and enjoy the magnificent views of Neustadt and the surrounding vineyards. If you like, bring a picnic – there's hardly a better way to enjoy the Palatinate landscape.

Taste the grape varieties

In late summer, as the grape harvest approaches, the vineyards of Haardt transform into a paradise for explorers of all ages. The grapes hang plump and fragrant on the vines, and along the wine trail you'll find signs identifying the different grape varieties. This allows you to see exactly which grapes grow here – such as Riesling, Bacchus, or Pinot Noir.

With a little attention, you can try tasting how different the varieties taste. Some grapes are sweeter, others a little more tart – and you might even discover your very own favorite! This is a particularly exciting experience for children, as they learn in a playful way that not all grapes are the same.
