Short walk to the castle with a view over the city

Just a quick trip to let the kids out - Wolfsburg is a worthwhile destination.
FACTS
Price: free
Weather: dry weather
Age: any age
Dogs: allowed on a leash
Location: Neustadt
The 2.3-kilometer circular route begins at the Wolfsburg parking lot on Sauterstraße. From there, it's a steady uphill climb (Schlossweg). The path starts out paved, later becoming gravel.
With or without a stroller?
Those with a stroller will need good stamina, but can make it to the top. However, the same route must be taken for the return journey.
Those without a stroller can also take the narrow, zigzag path on the way back, which branches off to the right shortly after the castle and is signposted. This way you'll pass the lovely playground on your return and can plan a short break there.
Castle tavern open?
The castle tavern is open every Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. from April to November. On the way up, the wall sometimes offers a glimpse of the castle. If the flag is flying, the tavern is open – an important indicator.
The 13th-century castle itself is unremarkable, but worth a quick look and is always open. Please supervise children in the castle, as it is not secured. There's also a great view from the opposite castle tower. Neustadt lies on the plain below, and if you look closely, you can spot the diving tower of the outdoor swimming pool.
Great parties
The Wolfsburg Castle, illuminated at night, hosts wonderful festivals organized by the association. The Wolfsburg Festival and the Wolf Howling event are among the highlights of the festival calendar. Guided tours of the castle are also offered occasionally.
