FAMILY HIKING TRAIL WITH SUN TERRACE AND PLAYGROUND

A bit of forest, a cabin and a playground - the path to the sun-drenched Ringelsberg cabin offers a great Sunday hike!
FACTS
Price: free
Weather: dry weather
Age: Suitable for all ages
Location: Frankweiler
Only on Sundays and public holidays
The Ringelsberghütte, with its sun terrace, is situated at an altitude of approximately 480 meters. It is open exclusively on Sundays and public holidays and is managed by volunteers from the PWV Frankweiler.
Short but steep path
The ascent to the hut from the large hikers' parking lot is about 2 kilometers long. You walk up a fairly wide hiking trail, which I wouldn't recommend for a stroller due to the steepness. However, you do occasionally see bicycle trailers being pushed up the 130 meters of elevation gain.
The trail leads you along the top of the Frankweiler quarry and offers beautiful views of the Rhine plain. The trail is well signposted.
Perfect Sunday outing
Once you reach the top, you'll find a great sun terrace, the cheapest spritzer prices far and wide in a truly rustic hut, and a nice playground for the children.
The cabin offers some seating both inside and out – but on really nice days, there can be a bit of a wait for food. On the plus side, you can enjoy a great view, and the kids will love the slide and the wooden truck that everyone wants to drive.
Extensions:
Do you love great views? Orensfels is just a short distance away. The path winds its way uphill to this viewpoint. You can find the tour description here:
Also nearby, and suitable as a side trip on summer days, is the path to the forest shower in Gleisweiler. The tour description is here:
