HISTORIC FIELD RAILWAY NEAR RAMSEN AM EISWOOG

Toot-toot - it rattles on the rails and steam rises from the chimney as the Stumpfwaldbahn railway climbs the hills at Eiswoog.
FACTS
Price: 12 € for the family ticket, plus €2.50 if traveling by steam locomotive.
Weather: all weather conditions (steam locomotives must not be used when there is a risk of forest fires)
Age: any age
Location: Ramsen - Eiswoog
The Eiswoog near Ramsen is in itself a beautiful destination for a day trip - especially in summer, when you can dip your feet in the lake and go rowing.
One tour please
From May onwards, the Stumpfwaldbahn, a historic narrow-gauge railway, also runs here every Sunday. Eiswoog station is located directly on the main road. You can park in the large parking lot next to it. Please refer to the Stumpfwaldbahn website for exact departure times. The railway is operated entirely by volunteers.
Route
Sometimes a diesel locomotive, sometimes a steam locomotive pulls the passenger carriages through the forest on the approximately 4-kilometer stretch to Ramsen. Ramsen station is the terminus of the line. You can buy a ticket for a one-way trip or a round-trip ticket.
Those who only take the one-way route can walk back along the tracks to Eiswoog and may then encounter the next train rattling along the tracks in the forest.
I recommend taking the train there and back. The whole trip takes about 45 minutes and leads through a shady forest. Please note that the steam locomotive emits soot, which can sometimes get on your clothes or face – a real Jim Button experience!
Hiking at Eiswoog
Those who would like to do some hiking can also do so at the Eiswoog lake. An accessible hiking trail circles the lake. You can easily reach the Eiswoog and the swimming area with a stroller or balance bike.
