Small marble runs at Laufhauser Weiher

The Gruffalo is coming back

The path to the forest marble run is short but steep. At the Laufhauser Weiher pond, you can then let the marbles roll down the simple tracks.

FACTS Price: free, marble €1

Weather: dry weather

Age: any age

Dogs: allowed

Location: Wolfstein

Let the marbles roll! Five lanes above the Laufhauser Weiher pond invite you to enjoy some marble fun. The lanes are not located on a path, but rather grouped together at a picnic area.

In the spring of 2025, a new, musical railway was added.

Parking and starting point

The path to the forest marble run starts above the youth hostel in Wolfstein, where you can also park. From here, the approximately 600-meter-long, but unremarkable, hiking trail into the forest begins.

You can also walk the wide path with a stroller, but the path is extremely steep and therefore quite strenuous with a stroller.

It's better to buy the balls in advance.

I recommend buying the marbles for the marble run right down at the youth hostel, as we didn't find a vending machine at the track when we visited. Apparently, it's supposed to be back up, but better safe than sorry. The machine requires €1 coins per marble.

Ball fun

The marble run consists of 6 individual, rather simple elements, which are covered with a lot of leaves in autumn. Ideally, you should have a small hand brush with you to be able to use the marble runs.

We found the train ride pleasant, but unspectacular. Afterwards, you can hike further up Königsberg (approx. 8km, 380m elevation gain) where you'll find a large wooden throne. However, the trail is also rather boring.

The area around the marble runs will be further expanded; a barbecue hut and additional marble runs are to be added.

Nearby combination options

Kaiserslautern Zoo

The zoo in Kaiserslautern is about a 30-minute drive from the marble run.

A charming, somewhat dated zoo, but it has a great playground and sloths.

Sundial on the Reiserberg

In about 30 minutes you'll reach the starting point for the hike up Reiserberg to the sundial. A relaxed hike starting from Heiligenmoschel.

The Potzberg Wildlife Park is also about a 30-minute drive from the marble run and is highly recommended.

Pfalz with Kids wishes you lots of fun playing marbles!
